I had my treatment back in January, spent Feb recovering and in April decided to go on holiday. Despite covering up, the anal soreness and itching came back whilst on holiday and since then I've been in agony. Anybody else have this?

What did you use?

My doctor gave me pile cream but it is useless and now I'm not sleeping.

  • Hi AnimalMagic, I found it was trial and error with creams and sometimes I just slapped on sudocrem (bit messy) Vaseline, sainsburys do a good sensitivity one for babies. My doctor gave me a cream that had a anti itch component but just cannot remember what it was called but it is a common over the counter cream which I think was vagisil medicated with lidocaine. I found this one gave temporary relief as I was discharging green pus which was quite frightening but I had no infection and was completely normal as a part of the healing for me. I also used to soak some muslin cloths in warm water and use that as a compress for that area when you are able to just go and lay down on the bed. Some would put salts or oils in the water but I would suggest you speak to your nurse first before using anything. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Hi ,

As  has said it’s a bit trial & we’re finding something that  suits you & does what you want it to do. For external skin that’s irritated both my surgeon & oncologist advised sudocrem & I took Piriton for the itch, also E45 do an itch relief cream. The soreness, inflammation & itching came & went for quite a while for me & I often found overdoing things would spark things off sometimes. If the pain is bad it’s possible that you may have a fissure but I would suggest give your oncologist/colorectal surgeon a call for some advice.
