Hi all,

I managed to get a cancellation CT appointment and I’m waiting for the results of the multi-disciplinary team meeting but they did say there was no spread on the scan (thankfully).  I asked what type of cancer it is and was told Adenocarcinoma and it’s in both rectum and anal canal.  Does this mean I’m in the wrong forum?  I think I go straight to surgery as treatment.

  • Hi   that's good news about the CT scan, obviously not so good about the adenocarcinoma diagnosis  and I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Don't forget that there's lots of support available on this site. Most anal cancers are squamous cell cancers although some are adenocarcinomas. Please feel fee to continue to post in our group. If you would also like to post in the bowel and rectal group please click on the following link https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/bowel-colon-rectum-cancer-forum/   I do hope you get your treatment plan asap, I found things got easier once there was a clear plan and a start date. All the best, Bev

  • Hi

Thats great news that your cancer is contained & there’s been no spread. There are a couple of different kinds of anal cancer, squamous cell carcinoma is the most common but adenocarcinoma is also a form anal cancer. With them saying it’s both rectal & anal until you have more clarity after the MDT meeting I think my best advice would be to dip into both this group & the Bowel (colon and rectal) cancer forum also, you’ll get advice & support from both & may find someone over there that’s been in a similar situation with a similar diagnosis. My diagnosis was stage 1 squamous cell carcinoma anal cancer & I had a local resection as first line treatment. Have they hinted at what the surgery would be?
