Hi everyone
I am 8 weeks post reconstruction surgery for ACC of palate (T1). Got the all clear from histology but advised to see oncologist by the surgeon because at a previous operation 3 months ago (when they thought my tumour was benign) there was evidence of peri neural invasion. Which is why I went on to have reconstruction.
I am waiting to see oncologist but my feelings are if my recent surgery shows no spread and all clear why have radiotherapy?? If ACC tends to return in the future (so I’ve read) surely it’s better to keep the radiotherapy treatment for when and if the cancer recurs especially if it is graded higher or has metastasised ???
I’ve read such a lot about ACC, it seems fairly standard that everyone has radiotherapy just wondered what people think and if anyone has had a similar experience??
thanks
Elaine
Hi Elaine
I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where hopefully it'll be seen by someone who can help.

I ruth hope all goes well with you fingers crossed..i startin radiotherapy soon wat was it like if you don't mind me asking
Hi,
Best wishes to you for your radiotherapy. You have already been through a lot.
i had 6 weeks radiotherapy 33doses when I was 56
I coped well but it is tough and I did lose some weight with the altered taste. The hospital was very good at supporting. I am sure that will explain everything to you and most people cope with it OK. I am now 11 years since the radiotherapy and 13 years since my diagnosis I am glad I had the treatment as I think it slowed the spread down
the accrf web site and the SGCUK are good sites for support with others with ACC and plenty of research which helped me
Good luck
Ruth

Acc is rare but there is a lot of research and support groups to get involved with
Salivary Gland Cancer uk and accrf can put you in touch with others with the same illness
where are you in the uk ?
the Christie in Manchester is very involved with research
