'Hi I'm new to this group, my mum was diagnosed with AML on the 12th August, I'm absolutely devastated, we are very close, she has started chemotherapy and is really feeling knocked out by it all...is there anything I can do to help her? Are there any questions I should be asking the professionals it's all so new and confusing, really don't know what I'm doing or where to start xxx

  • Hello Miss J.

Firstly, so sorry to hear of your Mothers diagnosis.

I too was diagnosed with AML in April 2025. I am now in remission luckily.

There is probably not much to do at the moment from my experience other than just be there for your Mum.

The Doctors know what they are doing so I would be just guided by them.

The chemo I had was quite harsh especially in the first round but seemed to get better after that.

I know it is tough on your Mum and all her family and friends but please don't give up hope.

I am quite happy to answer any questions to help based on my experience.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you for your kind reply, glad to hear your in remission and that things will hopefully get better after this first round PraySlight smile

  • Thank you MissJ

I was told at the start of my treatment that mental strength is very important.

How true that was. A good tip I thought.

Please try and keep very positive which I know can be difficult at the moment but it will certainly help.

    I hope this message helps.

  • I am trying but it’s so hard!! I’m better when I’m with mum, then break down when I get home xxx

  • Hi MissJ

I do appreciate it is very very hard.

My thoughts are with you and your Mum.

Do you know which type of AML your Mum has?

    Have you been to Maggies?

    Regards Mark x
