Thought I'd sign up and see if I can help by sharing my experience. Got the all clear after AML treatment Sept '20 at Maidstone Oncology, who I cannot praise enough.

Still feeling great and nearly back to full strength now,  There is hope, the diagnosis knocked us for six (Feb '20), another hour and I wouldn't be here to type this! So top marks to my mrs, the 111 service, the paramedics and ambulace cfrew, A and E and ICU at Maidstone Hospital. Had 4 lots of chemo (March to Sept '20), right thro covid, so no visitors!

So anyone going through it, keep smiling, a positive attitude rfeally helps.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups.

I don’t have AML but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

It's good that you have joined the community and are looking to support others on their journey by using your lived experience. This is a great help to those who are in the early stagees being caught in the headlights of diagnosis.

You may want to consider putting some information in your profile as this means you don't have to repeat your story over and over again - see the link at the bottom of post as to how to do this and you can see my story as well.

Always around to help more or just to chat.

  • hi Midget78,

your message is exactly what i needed to read today so thank you so much for reaching out with your experience.  My husband was diagnosed a week ago yesterday and i feel it is a minefield of information currently !!

He has been told it is treatable at first diagnosis and has had his PICC line in yesterday and they are just waiting for one more test from his bone marrow biopsy before finalising treatment.

To say my emotions are on a roller coaster really doesn't due any justice to it - i'm positive Polly one minute then in the doldrums the next.

well done to you all your crew and thanks again.
