Fiance in ICU

I am on this forum as I still don't know what is wrong with my fiancé. He's been in hospital 5 weeks with worsening anaemia and excruciating lower back pain. His bone marrow was dry and the biopsy was inconclusive. They were thinking a return of the NHL he had 10 years ago but nothing is showing up. They did another bone marrow biopsy Thursday which they are waiting for but He deteriorated yesterday and has been transferred to ICU. His blood pressure was really low and pulse really high and he was unresponsive. They have stabilised him and are hoping for this last bone marrow to yield some results. I'm thinking the speed of this has got to be acute leukaemia.

I mean what are his chances of them being able to treat this when he's so criticvally ill. He's only 52 and I am in shock. He has 4 childen abd a step son. Why has ot take so long to diamgnose. They say in 10 years they have never found it so hard to get a diagnosis with someone - why?? I don't understand :-(

Sorry for the garmmar I am shaking

  • Hi again  , I am sorry to hear that this situation has not made any positive progress.

This is such a challenging time for you all and during these times all we have is trust in our clinical teams. My wife was in the same position when I landed up in Critical Care…..

It’s unfortunately not that unusual not to get a clear diagnosis especially when the bone marrow is not functioning correctly…..

Lwts look for answers to be found and some positive progress can be made ((hugs))

  • Thank you. I need to read your story, were you in critical care long and what caused you needing to be admitted there?

  • If no clear diagnosis can be found then I guess that means he will not be able to have any treatment?

  • I had a very bad reaction to my final chemo as part of my second Stem Cell Transplant with heart issues. It happens two times over 10 days with me being in CCU 3 days at a time.

I still have a heart problem resulting in a heart attack back in April this year.

Regardless of a clear diagnosis or not his clinical team should look to treat as best as they can based on any evidence they have…… you need to sit with them and try to get them to explain what plans they have ((hugs))
