Hi , I was diagnosed last Oct with AML, suddenly and out of the blue, picked up during a routine blood test.I was hospitalised the same day, had a Bone marrow biopsy the next day, and started chemo 2 weeks later.Im on a cliniical trial of Cytaribine and Venetoclax, which for now has worked, The first few months were the worst, blue lighted to hospital with temp of 40 degrees, had  neutropenia, needed blood and platelet transfusions most days for the first 2 months, terrible sickness and stomach upsets, However with the right anti sickness meds , it did all calm down, so if there is anyone out there recently diagnosed , please know there is hope, Im still on chemo but instead of daily, I now have a 2 week break in between cycles, Im enjoying the quality of life I have as I remember how ill I felt at the beginning of this:"journey" that no one wants to take.Wishing you all well, and if I can do it , anyone can, Im female aged 71 , and intend to fight the good fight

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our various Blood Cancer groups.

I don’t have AML but I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey well.

Your route to diagnosis and subsequent treatment, including the challenges along the way is a very common story when it comes to blood cancers like AML.

But it’s good to hear treatment us going well and I get the impression that you are dealing with this unwanted journey well.

For good information do check out Leukaemia Care UK who produce very good information and have various support platforms including their Buddy Scheme and a support line on 08088 010 444

  • Im sorry to hear the chemo has been discontinued, Are there any targeted therapies on trial that you could try? Yes lets live as normally as we can, taking it day by day and not let this condition define us, Wishing you all the best

  • I had 2nd opinion from private consultant with same conclusion.

There is an ongoing Clinical Trial that I have put my name to for consideration.
