  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I help out around our blood cancer groups.

So sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis and as to the suddenness of it - this can often happen with AML.

I don’t have AML but was diagnosed way back in 1999 with a rare incurable but treatable type of skin Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Stage 4a and although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I have experienced most types of treatments used but not necessarily the exact same drug mix.

So we can help you more do you know the treatment she is going to be having?

What hospital is K&C and where?

What do you mean by 3bt?

There are a few member posted recently so I am sure they will pick up on your post but do post any questions and we will try and help you out as best as we can.

  • Hi My husband was diagnosed with aml in April. As you said, it all happens very fast. Blood test at GP's after he passed out, then admitted the same day for transfusions. Its been a constant round of appointments, blood tests and chemo since. Has your husband got his bed yet? I hope it all goes well for him. Look after yourself too, its a hard journey for both of you. Let me know if theres anything I can do to help, as we are a little bit further on this journey.

  • Sorry replied to the wrong part, meant to reply to Benidorm13! Still new here and finding my way around!!

Hello again, sorry should have thanked you for your reply.

His started off a year last March finding heart problems and the last 10 months was only just picked up on the blood.

Been virtually  house bound no energy from being quiet active and out going, a real shock.

Thanks for the chat Raising handRaising hand

  • Hi

Hope everything is going well for your husband.

I am currently being treated for AML, and yes, it all happened very fast. I was perfectly fine and healthy until mid July. Passed out on the 26th then lots of tests, transfusion and diagnosis by 30th.

I was admitted to a specialist hospital in Glasgow on 10th August, completed first round of chemo and I am now waiting for my bone marrow to start working again, except to be here for another 2 weeks at least.

Can then go home to recover for a short time, then back to do it all again!!

Look after yourself, my husband is doing his best!

It's not easy but I have been looked after very well and have faith I can be cured.

    Sue x

  • Hi Benidorm13 My husband has had about 36 blood and platelet transfusions since this all started in April. Had blood last week but that was the first for about 6 weeks, which is pretty good. I'm glad your husband has got his bed, Hope the treatment goes well. Look after yourself too.

36Astonished, hubbies just had to have 2 today as dropped from 90-50. Started on some tablets and injection maybe tomorrow.

For the first year it was his  heart they were worried about but this year gp picked up on blood levels.

Suppose lock down has held everything up. Where abouts are you? X
