Hi, I’ve just been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. I had viral type symptoms for a couple of months and couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting back to full health. I had blood tests done on Monday morning and by Monday night I was in hospital being told I could have blood cancer.
2 days later, after a bone marrow biopsy, it was confirmed and my whole world came crashing down around me.
I’ll be in hospital for at least a month while I complete my first round of chemo. Not being able to hold my babies is killing me.
Any words of positivity at this stage would be greatly appreciated x

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the community. So sorry that you have received this diagnosis, although I have a different type of blood cancer (Cutaneous T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) these conditions are on the whole treatable with great results, but the down side is going through the treatment and like you, I have had many hospital stays to achieve remission back in Sep 2016 for the first time in over 17 years…… so there is lots of positives out there.

What’s the name of your treatment?

What hospital are you getting treated at?

These questions will help you connect with other members who are still looking in.

AML is aggressive so it will be treated aggressively…. but from talking with others with AML over the years this can be controlled and life can move on.

Sorry, I did not introduce myself, I am Mike

Happy to talk at any time ((hugs))

  • Hi Blondeorbald

Sorry you have had the devastating news that you have AML

I had similar symptoms too you in April 2018 ,had the blood tests and yes off to hospital that evening. It was a scary time.

After a few weeks they started chemo ,I was on the aml 18 trial and by October I was discharged feeling quite good. Unfortunately I relapsed in February 2019 and went on to have a bone marrow transplant in May 2019.
2 years down the line I am feeling almost back to normal, went back to work today to start a phased return.
it’s been quite a journey but lots of people get through it. I was 61 years old when diagnosed

Feel free to message me if you wish and I hope your treatment goes smoothly and you are with your babies again soon xx
