I'm in remission and tested positive for covid what should I do??.

  • Hi , I don't have AML but Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

I so sorry to hear that you have tested positive for covid. I see you have sent your question to our Experts so they will get back to you at some point.

It depends where you stay, In Scotland as I am still in the CEV (Clinically Extremely Vulnerable) Group I have a central phone number to call if I test positive on an LFT. I can then talk this through and if required access a priority PCR test and if required the new medications that are available

You may want to check our coronavirus hub as this contains the latest guidance for people affected by cancer.

But you could in the first instance call my Clinical Team or GP and report this in and see if they think you need further help

I have talked with many folks on this site and other platforms who have tested positive and as they now have their 3 vaccinations most are reporting very slight symptoms.

  • I am very well, I am over 6 years out from my second Stem Cell Transplant (Oct 2015) and have been in remission since Sep 2016. This is more amazing as back in 1999 when I was first diagnosed with my type of NHL I was told it was incurable and would only have short periods of remission, yes 22 years on it is still incurable but life has moved on from only have 6-9 months in remission over my first 17 years to where I am now.

Covid is just one of the many challenges folks with blood cancers have to navigate. For me a simple cold can quickly turn into full on Pneumonia and week in hospital...... but this is my 3rd winter with no infections so my all new immune system must have grown up.

See what your GP says ((hugs))

  • Hello Lauraw 1985 , I am in remission from AML since my BMT in 2014.I am in England and on the clincially vuneralable list and have recently been sent a mail and PCR test through NHS England. I have been advised to get PCR to confirm positive test (if I get symptoms) I will then have an appointment for the antibody injection/pill depending on my consultants advice. I would get a PCR if you haven't had one and then ring your consultants help line for advice.

    Good luck

  • I tested positive on 30th December when infection markers were raised at routine blood test. Spent 5 nights as an inpatient but didn't feel ill, just had an annoying tickley cough. Hope you're doing OK.
