I am fearful for my mum as the blood transfusions are getting less effective last week only increasing her blood count from 74 to 84. Could anyone honestly answer if this is significant of the end? She is so tired and has really had enough although she is only 78 it is sole destroying seeing her look so fragile. My family are happily planning for Christmas but my fear is overtaking.
Hi , sorry to hear that the regular blood transfusions are not making a big impact on your mum’s blood counts. During my difficult times (different blood cancer) anything at 80 or above was taken as a positive, not great, but ok.
As for your concerns about this being significant nearing the end - I honestly don’t think there is any member on here can say if it is. This is a question that needs to be asked to your mum’s clinical care team as they would have an good idea where things sit with your mum’s condition ((hugs))
Hi Thehighlander, thanks for your reply, information is very thin on the ground and I had not known of AML until we got Mums diagnosis 3 months ago. Every thread talks about chemo and cures but they say my mum is beyond any treatment. I feel so helpless but I do hope you, in yourself, are enjoying a positive period. ((hugs))
Sorry to hear that the language being used is not positive. This unfortunately is how some blood cancers like AML can develop.
