Please does anyone have any experience as a patient or carer of Venetoclax + Low dose Cytarabine?   It's a possible option for my husband who is too frail for intensive chemo but is basically fit.  I'd be really grateful for any info that would help my husband know whether this is a wise step to take or whether it's better to continue with palliative hydroxycarbamide.  Many thanks for your help, Katharine

  • Hi Katherine, Venetoclax and Cytarabine are used across the blood cancers so let’s see if anyone picks up on your post.

As always you can put Venetoclax and/or Cytarabine into the search tool Mag near the top and look at the various posts by selecting ‘anywhere’ ((hugs))

Many thanks!  Have done this and have already learned a lot. Was good to see that different combinations of drugs are used in the elderly.  It's always good to feel that there are choices.

  • Hi Katharine

My wife was put onto venetaclax after she relapsed with AML.

She took these continuously along with sessions of azacitadine to keep her white cell count at a safe level whilst awaiting transplant.

She was taken of these after 3 months as her white cell levels got too low.

She did have minor side effects from the venetaclax being, aching joints, nausea, amnesia and thinning hair.

This drug is widely used for relapsed blood cancer patients who either cannot have SCT or to bridge the gap whists awaiting transplant or alternative options.

    Hope this helps

Thank you so much.  Sorry slow replying.  This is very encouraging as I'm a carer who's been told only scary stuff about venetoclax.  Hoping that all going well for you.  K
