Hi all

My mum has just had her recent blood test results back from her team. She has a very high white blood cell count and had been told she will need treatment.

What's available is chemotherapy via intraveanous or the option for tablet form.

For those who have read my post over the past 18 months will recall my wife having gone through chemo with AML.

my mother is 87 years of age and having seen how the treatment affected her, I struggle to see my mum being g able to cope with either option. Has anyone had any experience of an older family member having treatment for CLL. Your replies would be much appreciated.

  • Hi Nick , so sorry to hear this news, this is a hard time for the family and as you know Nick - every blood cancer is rather different requiring different treatments and CLL falls into this category.

We do have a CLL, SLL, HCL group - it is rather slow........ but worth joining and putting up a post as you may pick up folks lurking in the background.

I have been told The Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia Support Association, mostly known as the CLLSA to be a good place for information..... but I can not find it but did come up with the Community in Health Unlocked

We also have Caroline our Heamatology Nurse who has a background in all things Leukaemia so you can punt some questions to her but she is a Volunteer Experts so please allow 2 working days to get a reply.

When I was having my long 6 chemo cycles getting me ready for SCT I sat and talked with a number 80- somethings being treated for CLL and they mostly did ok so lets look for a positive way forward for her.

Thats the best I can give at the moment Nick but if I can find more I will put it up.

((hugs)) to your mum...... and to you ;)
