I’m newly diagnosed with AML and trying to make decisions on how to proceed. Wanted to hear people’s experiences of how difficult the treatment is? I’ve had treatment fir ALL and I know that was hard just wondering if I can make it through or should I just let it go.

    Hi Nick,

Sorry to hear your wife is having a tough time. When did she finish the FlagIDA? My Dad finished his 11 days ago and he’s really struggling. He was ok at first but the last couple of days he’s developed fluid on his lungs which is now impacting his heart. He said that every day he feels more fatigued than the last. I’m trying to work out when he will start to feel a bit better. His last round of chemo he had the usual infections and fatigue but nothing like this.

I hope your wife gets to come home soon.

  • Hi toomanycats

My wife was fine until about 10 days post treatment, then bang, fever straight away, shivers, high temp etc. I think this seems the norm. Don't be mistaken, Flag ida is brutal, very strong stuff. Wife is now on day 23 and seems to have come through  the worst. Keep strong and believe.

    Hi Nick

It is tough treatment I know. If she's feeling a bit better then just concentrate on her getting stronger for transplant. Eating, walking about a bit if she can and trying to build her strength up for it.

Do you know what conditioning she's having? I had Flag, buscelfan, ATG and methotrexate I think.

  • Have no idea as yet but I plan to build her up in the short time we will have prior to SCT

Just to let you know my Dad lost his battle this morning. He had a heart attack and they couldn’t revive him.

I wish you all the best in your journeys and hope you have a better outcome than we did. Thank you everyone who has responded and answered my questions.

  • , so sorry to hear this news. We all start our cancer journey with the hope of reaching the goal but unfortunately this just does not happens all the time.

Please accept my condolences and take time to reflect on all the happy memories. Wishing you strength and wisdom for the weeks ahead.
