My annual renewal is due with All Clear and so having received the quote for £257 I decided to call them and ask why my colorectal cancer treatment in 2023 was still on the list as they require all "Received treatments or advice at a hospital, clinic or GP surgery" within the last 2 years. The customer service guy explained that although I am clear of the disease now, the fact that I was still on the 5 year surveillance program with 6 monthly blood tests that it still has a bearing on the premium. I complained to him that the blood test was neither treatment or advice and that it should not be on my list. Anyway they would not back down and so I have put in a complaint by email saying that this shows little consideration for cancer survivors to be haunted in this way and also that it could be seen as a money making exercise in my opinion! Any views on this?
Hi Richard….. we all hear you.
I know from experience having been on my cancer journey for over 26 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas one incurable (1999 then 2013)…. Asbestosis (2013) and Prostate Cancer (2026) that Travel Insurance Companies don’t see the effects of the long lasting labelling of people post cancer treatments.
Based on the treatments I have had….. some 10 years ago…… my ‘risk rating’ is high due to the ‘possibility’ of infections.
The crazy anomaly in their system I can’t get my head round is that as I have not had any Lymphoma treatment for 10+ years my ‘Incurable’ Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in their books is classed as cured…. !!!!
Hello Richard21,
I agree with your comments, but I wouldn't bet on them taking much notice. My entire career was spent in the insurance industry (not travel, but industrial and as a broker, not insurer) and I know how insurance companies are sticklers for their own rules.
Have you looked anywhere else for cover? If not, I'd suggest you try Albert & Eddie, a comparison site owned by the same company that own Insurencewith and Holidaysafe. I have incurable but treatable prostate cancer and received excellent quotes from them - ended up with a worldwide policy through Holidaysafe.
It might be worth looking if you haven't already, at least you might have an alternative if you don't get anywhere with All Clear.
