On informing our travel insurance company of my husbands cancer diagnoses they cancelled our years policy which had till September to run and told us we should be able to claim for another years policy with a different company. The quote is £3000 we have pay this upfront, get a medical certificate, and send the invoice for the long weekend we have already booked in two weeks. (We did hope to go abroad in September but have nothing else booked at the moment). It will then go to their claims board and if they agree they will pay us. My dilemma is that if we pay the 3000 and they then say no it is money we really cant afford to spend. Any help or advise apricated.
I don't understand what's going on? Your existing annual travel insurance have cancelled your annual policy and provided a quote for a new one at £3k? And they might consider a claim for your upcoming holiday - under the old policy?
The break you have booked for 2 weeks time was booked under the old policy so the new quote is irrelevant, if I'm understanding the situation.
If you still need travel insurance I'd shop around for a new single trip policy.
I agree with Mmum. Assuming you intend to cancel your already booked trip you should claim under your current annual policy.
I’d have serious doubts about whether, having already booked a holiday and now knowing about the diagnosis, the new policy they propose would enable you to cancel. Or are you saying you still want to go on the holiday but need medical cover which your current policy doesn’t provide?
in any case, unless it’s a cruise and/or you or your husband have other serious medical conditions, £3000 sounds very very expensive
If you still want to go then why not phone one of the companies on Macmillan’s list? Most will take your details and give you a quote during the course of the call. You can then take out cover immediately, but do check it will cover pre arranged holidays (and get that in writing).
Will you clarify a couple of issues please? Did you renew your policy before the diagnosis/before any symptoms or tests? Do you still want to go on the trip? Is it outside the U.K.? Have you tried other companies?
Good luck
