Hi, we booked our cruise 2 years ago (a week in Spain and France) and I tried to get insurance but couldn’t because it was too far in the future and now my husband has cancer. It’s subungual melanoma. They have tested his lymph nodes and we are waiting to see if it has spread but from what the consultant has said and how long it was under his fingernail with no doctors suspecting it was cancer it hasn’t been caught early. i need to pay off the holiday which will be over £1300 but we are still waiting for results. The consultant said even if it hasn’t spread he may recommend immunotherapy and if it has then it’ll definitely be immunotherapy. Obviously we’re expecting the insurance to be a lot but just wondering if anyone had anything similar and had a ball park figure? I can’t get an estimate because I don’t know what stage or if he’ll have any treatment. I will have this information before the cruise but not before I have to pay it off. I don’t want to waste £1300 if the insurance is going to be £3000 as we would just cancel but if it’s maybe £800 for example we would pay. I literally have no idea what we might be looking at if it’s stage 2 with no treatment or stage 3 or 4 with treatment but we need to decide very soon if it’s worth paying the holiday off or cancelling. For reference he is early 40s with no other health issues. If we cancel we would have two very devastated young children. Thank you.
Hello Confused,
A warm welcome to the online community although I'm very sorry you have cause to join.
Unfortunately insurance companies are notoriously cautious about health issues and usually refuse to quote when definitive health, diagnosis and treatment information can't be given.
It's a very long shot but you could try Insurancewith or Holidaysafe, they're part of the same group and I got cover at reasonable cost when others wouldn't quote. Do be prepared for more disappointment though.
In view of what your situation I think it's very important that you 'phone them rather than trying online, that way you can be absolutely sure they get the right information they need.
May I also suggest that you join and post the same question on the skin cancer forum, there might just be someone on there that can comment better than me. I've put a link to this below.
I'm sorry I can't be more positive for you.
I wish you and your husband all the best for successful treatment.

Thank you I’ll try the skin cancer forum. I was going to get the insurance after I paid the holiday off when we know what is going to happen. I know they won’t give us it while things are up in the air. Sadly we have to make the decision whether to pay off the holiday before we’ll have an answer and get our insurance. I was just hoping someone had an example of what they paid if they had stage 2 melanoma or stage 3 melanoma with immunotherapy so I know whether to pay it off or not.
Thanks
