Hi everyone,
The lovely @latchbrook set up the original 'recommended travel insurance thread' which you can still view here. Just so you don't have to go through the different pages of information to find recent recommendations, you can find the most recent experiences in this thread.
Please note, all recommendations are from Community members and are not recommendations from Macmillan. Please do your own research as to whether the companies are suitable for you.
This thread can be used to update the group when you've found an insurance company that provided you with cover at a reasonable cost from a recommendation you found here or elsewhere.
If you could put a little bit of additional information eg. whether you got a single trip or annual, cover for a cruise, worldwide, etc along with anything else that you think others would find helpful when they are researching that would be great.
You may also find Macmillan's 'Cancer and buying travel insurance' page to be helpful
It's because of the high frequency need to use helicopters to airlift ill patient's off of ship to get to mainline treatment centre's. Cruises always cost more for people with illnesses. I just avoid cruises.
Martin 57 - that sounds fantastic! I hope you have a fantastic holiday. I have “terminal” cancer but doing really well at the moment, just on an oral chemo drug. We are going to Lanzarote in January 2025. I have certainly got more than six months to live so will give this company a try!
Thanks for the tip!
I discussed this with my oncologist. She said the travel insurance definition of terminal illness was wrong. In her opinion, terminal is when the patient has 6 months or less to live. She would not class me as terminally ill and would endorse my statement that l am fit to travel so l think l will phone them.
We've had a quote fro InsuranceWith (A bit under £600) for two of us for winter sports including some recent cancer treatment, not unreasonable but I don't have to decide just yet so they sent an advert for what looks like their Comparison Site, called Albert and Eddie. Has anyone found this useful?
Hello Helenaa,
I have recently received quotes for worldwide cover from Albert and Eddie which is quite a bit cheaper than Insurancewith. I've looked at the policy wordings and they are obviously Insurancewith wordings with some very minor and fairly insignificant differences (I was an insurance professional all of my working life so can easily compare and understand / see through policy wordings). The cover is also underwritten by the same insurer.
I've taken out a policy with them.
Thank you Excavator. That was unexpected, I thought they were just directing me to their own version of a comparison site, rather than hinting at a cheaper version. I wonder what the differences are. (I am aware that some insurers have very similar policies under a slightly different "wrapper", but it was a way of charging you more for the same thing.) I have not looked closely at my InsureWith quote yet, I have a lot to deal with at the moment, and I think the 3.5 hours on the phone doing the medical screening (over 2 days in 3 sessions with two agents) has left me worn a bit thin. I know it has to be done ...
WE have a place in southern Spain that I haven't seen since April because during the summer I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer - I was first diagnosed 22 years and six days ago - and now that I'm being treated with Combination Therapy we would very much like to return to our place in the sun. Our insurance broker, however, hit a brick wall when it came to up-dating my travel insurance. The situation isn't being helped by the fact I'm also being treated for high blood pressure and have just been told I might have a heart murmur. But if you looked at me you couldn't tell I had any of these problems. Living in West Yorkshire, I've been recommended to contact Maggie's at St James' Hospital in Leeds as they might have some useful contacts. But, I just wondered if anybody had any personal recommendations worth following up? Many thanks.
Try Insure& Go. Expensive but they don’t throw you out if you say you are having continuing treatment.
Thanks. I'll give them a call and see what they have to say.
I take meds for high blood pressure and adjuvant drugs for cancer. With a fit to travel letter from my oncologist I was able to get annual travel insurance from Staysure (one of the companies on the list I received from Macmillan).
The key thing was that I wasn’t awaiting tests or results.
The cost for me and my partner was £600 for Europe only.
Good luck with your search. Please come back and tell us how you get on
