Hi. I have had to have a mastectomy and I have a holiday to the States booked. I had travel insurance with a specialist medical insurer as originally had a local wide excision in 2015 so I am covered for cancellation but the underwriters will only cover you to fly 2 months following surgery and I want to fly just over 6 weeks after surgery. My surgeon is happy I am safe to fly and fully healed and I am going to have no further treatment. Does anyone know of an insurance company that may insure me? Otherwise I will have to cancel. I tried BIBA but because it is not 6 weeks yet they were not able to help me as I am not classed as able to fly yet although I don't want to go yet! So they won't even talk to me yet but that would leave me about two days to find insurance before I go! Please help with any recommendation or advice as I really don't want to have to cancel. Thanks Mero
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that your existing travel insurers will not cover you for your upcoming holiday as they will only cover you to fly if surgery was more than 2 months ago.
I don't know whether you've looked through the Recommended Travel Insurance thread yet as it's where we try to keep recommendations from other forum members who have obtained travel insurance. Clicking on the link I've created will take you directly to it if you haven't seen it.
It is best to phone the travel companies rather than try and do online quotes. Make sure you have all the information to hand about your husband's diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of common questions that insurers might ask when you're applying for insurance.
Some insurers will ask for a letter from your doctor to prove that they have given you permission to travel. In any case it's always best to make sure that you have checked with your doctor that it's okay to travel and that this has been recorded in your notes in case of a claim.
I do hope that you can get travel insurance and continue with your holiday plans
