Utter disappointment

I asked to be referred to macmillan and our local hospice months before my husbands condition deteriorated, clearly we were not.

I was then told during his final days there was no availability for carers from macmillan! I am so disappointed and furious about the promises of care and support that were made at diagnosis but not kept.

  • Hi

I am sorry you were made promises that were not kept. Can I ask if you have tried ringing the helplne to see what support you can be offereed - 0808 808 0000 - it is open 8am to 8pm 7 days a week.

  • aww am so sorry to hear this. We found it really hard too. Everything was a battle. We didn't get the referral we wanted and I ended having a little break down and our gp came out to the house and did the referral. Even than it was battle. Her wishes were not to die in our living room, as she didn't want my children to remember that. It was a complete battle with our hospice - first the didn't have any room available in final days and said she could go a wait list (a wait list to die, I've never heard of something so ridiculous). Then she said she was too far gone to transport. After a meeting with many hospice staff and my uncle advocating for my family. Then they final moved her. Unfortunately its all the lack of support and lack of compassion, that i remember most.

Have you tried calling the hospice to have a meeting with them?
