My daughter with down syndrome completed her chemo, surgery and radiation for colorectal cancer. First scan showed it has metastasized in lungs, She was given 18 to 24 mo. to live. Told to go home and live her life??? how do you do that? It feels like we are on the titantic after hitting the iceberg and told to enjoy the cruise...
Hello Denkat
I am Brian one of the Community Champions here at Macmillan. I have just read your post and it does sound like you have come across someone in the NHS who is pretty insensitive to your and your daughter's feelings. I am sorry that's how they have come across.
The correct message I think you should have had is - yes, there is limited time but we can't put a figure on it - enjoy your daughter's company and spend as much time as you can enjoying life and making and recording memories.
I am from the Prostate group so my knowledge of your daughter's condition is limited, but I would be seeing what treatment is available and if i wasn't happy with what was offered I would be asking for a second opinion.
I wish you both well moving forward.
Best wishes - Brian.
