Recurrent Womb Cancer

My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 womb cancer in November 2021.  In January 2022 she had a full hysterectomy followed by 4 rounds of chemo and 6 weeks of radiotherapy.  The scan after showed no further signs of cancer.  However, in October 2023 she was diagnosed with recurrent womb cancer which showed a growth on her lymph nodes in her groin and nodes on her lungs.  She was told it was not curable but she would receive palliative treatment.  They estimated that she would have around 12 months at that time.  She then began 6 rounds of chemo which finished in March 2024.  A scan shows that the nodes on her lungs had reduced and the cancer tumour on the lymph node had stayed the same size.  In October she has been told again that the cancer is growing and as well as on her lungs she also has nodes on her liver.  She has again began 6 rounds of chemo.  She is 84 and has been through so much.

I don't know how this treatment will go, but I am worried.  She has lost quite a bit of weight and her appetite is not what it was.  I am assuming that they are giving her more chemo as they think that they can extend her life.  It is not something she has asked as it is something I know she is worried about.

I feel like we are just waiting to see what happens.  In October 2023 they expected her to have 12 months left to live but thankfully she is still with her.  I feel like I am waiting for something awful to happen and have been living with this for 12 months.

  • Hi

Sorry to read about your mum, I know what you mean about waiting for something terrible to happen with how my dad went.

It may be worth a discussion about the chemotherapy, sometimes it can be used to help control symptoms and then is often described as palliative rather than curative though of course all chemotherapy usually comes with side effects.

Hope you are keeping as well as possible.
