Hello,
a close family member has lung cancer. Her specialist has told her there is nothing that can be done as she isn’t well enough to have treatment.
She has another appointment with a different hospital to see another specialist for a second opinion.
i am worried the specialist will come up with the same answer as the first one.
i don’t know how to support her if the answer is still the same and nothing can be done?
im worried it will make her worse mentally and don’t know if it is the right thing to do. The specialist at the first hospital didn’t check her scan for ages so she only found out when he looked at the computer screen in her appointment and his face dropped. Then he said there is nothing that can be done.
Does anyone have any suggestions how we can mentally support her if the second specialist agrees with the first please? Thanks
Hi AnnieDolly welcome to the forum . Its hard when the news is not as we had expected and certainly not we had hoped to hear. Has she herself asked for the second opinion or is this something that has been offered?
Its a difficult question to answer about how best to support her. I always think honesty is the best policy and to talk things through or not as the person decides themselves. Sometimes there is nothing to do but just be there for them and listen if they want to talk. Im sure some of the lovely folks on here will be along soon to maybe offer some further thoughts for you.
