My partner has incurable cancer he had been getting various operations over the past 6 years. Yesterday he was told there is not hi h more they can do but offer chem to buy a bit more time he refused. How do I comfort him. I dare not to think whats going on his head I feel so helpless and heartbroken for him
Hi Bonjour
Sorry to read about your partner. Perhaps the only thing anyone can do at a time like this is to be there. It is always a difficult question of quality vs quantity of time when it comes to treatment. Sometimes by turning away from chemotherapy there can be more done to support care that helps deal with symptoms and make the best of any time that is left.
Feeling helpless is fairly normal at a time like this as is something referred to as anticipatory grief - the loss of the future we had imagined together. There are some interesting reflections on this here that might be helpful.
<<hugs>>
Steve
