Hi there, my mums now getting breathless & sounding very chesty as she is too west to cough her flem up! I’ve phoned the district nurse as we have the just incase meds there might be something in there they can give her? Has anyone else experienced this & what happenes if she can’t get the flem up and the breathlessness gets worse? I don’t think the palliative care nurses are available at the weekend not sure I’ll find out from district nurse! Aww my poor mum it was her birthday yesterday 71 years old and she just deteriorating as the days are going on it’s so so sad.
xx
Hi Sky. My dad passed away on Monday and in his final hours his breathing deteriorated - we had to call the paramedics on Sunday as it was the weekend and no one to administer the drugs available. The just in case meds can help with sedation the Midaz which we gave dad to help with anxiety but also there are meds in there to help with breathing and the secretions.
sadly dad rapidly went downhill when his breathing was bad and died within a few hours.
he had 4 major bleeds from his tumour in the prior days and I think his body had enough. Please do make sure if someone doesn’t come quickly to call 999 the paramedics can help with the drugs you can’t give her.
Wishing you all the best x
awe I really feel for you. Call the district nurses day or night.. if it’s now time for the syringe driver I think I remember dad having something in there to dry up secretions. To be honest I really think you both need a bit of support with this symptom towards the end of life that can be so distressing for you both.. keep us posted on how you are getting on Sky1 xx
Hi , aww I’m so sorry to hear this , sending you lots of love and strength! That must have been terrible for you.
yeah the district nurse came out yesterday & put something in her arm for secretions, she was ok for the rest of the day just lying in couch watching her tv programs, but this morning agsin I got her out of bed & into the bathroom & the breathless came back, I think it might be a 1st thing in the morning thing as she seems a bit better now! Still not sure what stage she is at coz she is still managing to eat porridge & shuffle herself to the toilet with help of course! I’m gonna get her cancer nurse out to see her next week try and get an update as I’m still at work & stressing that if I don’t take time off soon I’ll regret it but then don’t want to take it off too early! Really not sure.
sending you & your family strength at this really difficult time xx
