Hi, this is my 1st time posting. My dad has terminal bowel cancer that has spread to liver and lungs. He’s had various different chemos over the years but his treatment was stopped may time where consultant said they would keep a eye on him. He had another scan then another consultation in middle of aug where they discharged him and handed his care back to gp and district nurses who would give him palliative care. Since then he has became weaker and weaker. He is so yellow, getting weaker and weaker each day. He was still managing to get up but sleeping throughout the day in chair. He doesn’t have the strength to get to bathroom and using a bucket, his urine is black and has virtually no appetite. He ate some mash potatoe and a carrot last weekend since then he has maybe ate 1/2 yogurt on a daily basis or a few strawberry’s. This past week he has started to go to bed during day and then go to bed maybe at 5 or 6 for the night. If he’s up in chair he’s drifting in and out of sleep, he looks dreadful and just seems to be going downhill fast, he’s vomiting throughout the day, his urine has gone from black to a really dark brown past few days. The yellow skin colour is now looking more brown in colour although the whites of his eyes are like illumounis yellow. The district nurses came out on thurs for 1st time and are coming back Tuesday. He’s taking anti sickness tablets and morphine but he just seems to be going downhill. If this is the end how long does this last for?
I’m so sorry - it’s so worrying and scary, isn’t it. My husband had colon cancer which is now in his liver and lungs. His bile duct is blocked which is the same symptoms as your father has - dark urine, pale stools and yellow skin and eyes - and extreme tiredness. This is the second time my husband’s had jaundice and he is having a stent put in his bile duct so all the toxins can be flushed through in the usual way. Obviously I have no medical training, but it’s worth asking about jaundice and any treatment. Good luck and hope you get some answers b
