Hi, last week we were advised by the consultant that the chemo was not working and therefore no more treatment available. He advised that we get in touch with mum's GP asap to discuss a Care Package. I understand the principle but mum has not got a great deal of faith in her GP surgery and we feel a little abandoned. What does a 'good' care package look like - what can she expect?

Welcome to the community although your arrival is not at the best of time for you and I'm sorry to hear about your mum

Trying to arrange a care package is a daunting business and once the hospital makes the decision that an end of life care package should be put in place the ovetall responsibility for the care of your mum reverts at the door of your mums GP and as the consultant as advised you should as soon as possible contact the GP surgery for the wheels to be put in motion

I would, if possible, forget the past with the GP and allow him the opportunity to make your mum as comfortable as possible with the best care available

I know you understand the principle of care packages but please forgive me if by sending you the following it just reiterates the information you are already aware of

    Macmillans

    NHS - 1

Thanks Ian - any information is very welcomed

My mum and step dad don't like to ask questions or challenge authority but I know they have questions so it's good for me to be prepared and have some advise at hand so many thanks for responding
