Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read this post.
My dad has had 3 rounds of treatment with different drug combinations. Unfortunately non of them have worked.
On Monday we saw the registrar. After my dad’s examination the registrar asked my Dad his assessment of how long he had to live. He replied about a year. The registrar paused and said a matter of months.
Today (Thursday) I went to see him. His energy levels are low. He can get washed and dressed but then needs to have a sleep to cope for the rest of the day. Eating or drinking is not high on my dad’s agenda but is happy to watch the golf!
When my mum went out the room. He said he did not want to live like this anymore. He has no quality of life. Probably by Christmas I’ll be gone he said to me. Please look after mum and your brothers. I said of course I would.
I want the best for my dad. Knowing what to say and do at this sensitive time is crucial to me.
Thank you
M007, my heart goes out to you and your dad. There is nothing worse than someone talking like that. It is the same with my wife. She has Small Cell Lung Cancer and time is short. All you need to do is be there for your mom and dad and try and not let him see if you get upset. Try and be as normal as possible in front of him,and dont forget to make memories.
God Bless You All
