My mum is 93 and in a care home, she is dying with a diagnosis of liver cancer. She keeps asking me to help her she says her back is hurting, but the nurses in the care home are reluctant to give her anything stronger than paracetamol. They have told me that giving her something stronger whilst she has liver cancer will result in her no longer being able to eat or drink. But I don't want her to be in pain, it's more than I can bear when she keeps asking me to help her and I don't seem to be able to do that.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Hi
I have no medical background so can't comment on what you've been told by the nurses in your mum's care home.
Has your mum been discharged from the hospital back into the care of her GP or does she still have a CNS? If she still has a CNS then I'd suggest that you give her a call and explain about the pain that your mum is in.
If your mum has been discharged then her GP will be responsible for her overall care and you could give him/her a call to explain your concerns about the pain she's in.
