Hi
My wife has been diagnosed as terminal with osteosarcoma, She is the bravest person I know, but one topic constantl causes arguments and stress. She refuses to tell her children(my step children) of this diagnoses. She thinks she is protecting them (they are 24 and 20 ) but I believe it is herself she is protecting. I:E she is scared. I feel I am keeping a terrible secret from them ,which I suppose I am and many times I have thought about sitting them down and telling them myself. They know she is very ill but both believe she will be cured, is it fair from them to believe this until the end or should they be given time to prepare for the grief to come.
regards Ady
Hi Ady,
Sorry to hear of your wife.
My other half considered not telling her son, but in the end, with Social Media and all that, she decided that it was really unlikely the secret could be kept.
So the two of us told him, but what we did keep from him was the progress of the disease. This actually did allow her to remain fully his Mum, pretty much up to the end.
After she passed away, he asked me why I never told him to which my answer was simply that it was his Mums wishes, which he accepted.
I think it is her call, she has very little control of her life right now and may upset her no end to lose this decision. The purpose of me writing really is to share with you an alternative idea, telling the prognosis but not keep them fully in the loop on the journey, that you may share with her.
Every blessing to you, again, sorry for your wife.
