CAR-T

Hi there

My partner (43) was diagnosed with ALL in June last year.

He has undergone a stem cell transplant (donor) and unfortunately relapsed after 3 months.

His consultant has mentioned the possibility of CAR T treatment but he has to wait another 2 months before he can have this as you cannot have had campath (something they used during his transplant) for 6 months before they start CAR T. He is now going through one cycle of inotuzumab as a holding treatment to get him to the 6 months before they can start Car-t.

Im looking for anyone who has had this treatment or currently going through it and any positive outcomes???

Thanks everyone

  • Hi Sarah and welcome to our little corner of the community.

Sorry to hear about his relapse but CAR-T could well do a good job.

I relapsed 6 months after my first Allo (donor) SCT but as there were no other options other than palliative care so we had another go with a second Allo SCT and so far so good (see my profile)

We have had a few go through CAR-T over the past few years so let’s look to see if they are still looking in and for them to pick up on your post.

You can also use the set her tool Mag near the top. Put in CAR-T have a look at the post and hit reply and see if they are still on the community.

  • Thank you for your reply!

We have asked about the possibility of another stem cell transplant but they say that would not be possible so we have everything riding on Car-T!

I will have a look at your story.

    Thanks again

  • Hi Sarah2513,

I don’t come on the site very often these day so sorry I have just seen your comment. I had CAR-T two years ago & have been in remission ever since. I had a very positive experience. Have just realised I had not updated my profile so have just finished doing so. If you click on my name you can read all about my journey.

Best of luck for your partner Lyn

  • Hi Sarah2513 et al

We're just about to embark on this journey. My wife got the go-ahead for CAR-T two days ago and had her specialist team interview yesterday. We are heading over to the unit for her pre-apheresis assessment next Tuesday, then we just need to wait for a slot to have her cells harvested. Then I guess it's down the path that Lolla has been down. I just hope our journey is as successful as yours has been, Lolla. Thanks for sharing, by the way. I'm going to try to post as we go, but I'm sure you'll forgive me if I get distracted from time to time. I don't pretend to have any answers as this is all a strange and unusual arena for me, but if you think I can help in any way, please don't hesitate to reach out. Even in the short time I've been on here I've found some very knowledgeable and supportive people who will undoubtedly be able to offer more than I can. But I'm good at cuppas and nodding sagely. Best wishes.
