Travelling abroad with terminal cancer

Just wondered if anyone has travelled with a loved one whilst they have or had terminal cancer. My husband is in this position and has probably a few months left. He has no family apart from wife and children here, all are in the USA. He wants to go and see them for the last time and obviously I will have to travel with him. Has anyone experienced this, and what can I expect, and any tips for a relatively easy journey?
The insurance is astronomical, understandably for the USA, but still not sure if the airline will allow him to travel etc.
Can anyone help?

thanks

Thank you so much for this info. My partner who has terminal lung cancer wants us to have one last holiday in the sun and was worried about the cost of insurance. I’ll look into Boots now. Xx

  • Hi

You might like to join us over in the travel insurance group. To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens.

Once there, look for the thread called 'Recommended Travel Insurance' (it's usually on the first page) as it's where we try to keep all the recommendations from other forum members who have successfully obtained travel insurance.

Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis.

It is best to phone the travel companies rather than try and do online quotes. Make sure you have all the dates of your partner's treatment to hand along with details of any medication and any future planned treatment.

If you haven't done so already you need to make sure that your partner has permission to travel from his consultant and that it's recorded in your his notes. This is in case you need to make a claim. You don't want the travel insurance company to have any excuse not to pay out!
