Hi, I am from Auckland, New Zealand and was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung cancer and have some other minors areas, so it has spread in March 26.
I have constant nausea and vomiting day and night, have just today got home from the hospital Fri 17/7 been in there since Tue 14/7 also spent Tue to Sat in hospital last week.
They have pushed out my chemo appointments twice because of how much I am already struggling with nausea and vomiting .
They have had me on 4 types on anti nausea medications and none of them have worked one little bit, a lot of my vomiting comes from this dry cough I have acquired. Much easier with a wet cough. I also take asthma medications but am not a asthmatic. I stopped taking codiene for the cough because I thought that was the answer but it isnt.
Its been 5 weeks since my last chemo/immuno and it should be 3 weekly.
I am absolutely beside myself with how to manage this constant nausea and vomiting. Please help.
Any tips or tricks much appreciated.
Hi Dunno44 and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the challenges you are having.
….. and a warm welcome from the other side of the world… The Macmillan Community is run by Macmillan Cancer Support……. we are the UKs main cancer support charity covering all cancers as well as all aspects of the cancer journey. So a very high percentage of people you will talk with are in the UK.
I know from experience having been on my cancer journey for over 26 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable), Asbestosis and Prostate Cancer that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' treatment journey can help a lot.
For me the rhythm of nausea medication was a mystery….. I was on and off nausea meds for a number of years (a lot were through IV) and thankfully for me, although we changed the meds type a lot, even circling back to the same ones, I was not sick a lot.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you look to join and post in our dedicated…….
……. support group.
This group is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members who are navigating the same journey.
To connect with a group click on the “Bold Links” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.
When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Thank you. I have joined the lung cancer group. We don't have a group like this in NZ so an oncolgist suggested this group.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
