Hi everyone,  I'm new to the group and I'm about to start my chemotherapy on 22nd,  every 3 weeks and 6 sessions. The lump is 4cm.

I'm unsure what to expect,  or how to help myself to overcome this? I'm open to all suggestions on food,  hygiene,  health and exercise.  I currently attend therapy sessions,  and had a reflexology session and it was great!! I'm booked in for another reflexology and massage in July.  These are free for so many sessions then pay at reduced rate.  Any ideas? Herefordshire based.

  • Hi

I have just replied to your other post on exercise. When you go for your first chemotherapy session, the nurse will probably talk to you about foods to avoid. Essentially, chemotherapy is going to damage white blood cells making it harder for you to overcome both bacterial and viral infections. So the guidance they give will be on how to reduce the risk of infection - obvious things around buffets, reheated food, some raw foods, shellfish etc. Similarly you might want to avoid busy enclosed spaces during the riskiest period of each cycle (they will tell you when this is), or if you can’t avoid things like crowded public transport, perhaps think about using an FFP3 mask.

As for exercise - keep on doing what you can. There may be some days when you can’t - don’t worry about those. The more you can stick to something like a normal routine, the better you will feel. Maintaining a level of fitness will help you recover more quickly when you finish treatment. One of the most important things is to keep hydrated before, during and after treatment.
