Hello!
I had a colon resection in March 2025 that went very well; no stoma and no Mets found in local lymph nodes etc, so no follow-up chemo.
Sad to say that 3 months ago some test scans showed a small lesion on my liver that appeared easy to remove, so I was admitted for a liver resection last week. But unfortunately, once they gained internal access the surgeons found a number of additional lesions on the liver that made it impossible to continue, and the operation was aborted.
I'm now facing my initial chemo consultation in a couple of days time and just don't know what to expect. I assume the initial meeting is for discussions and treatment will start some time later. My main worry is the speed at which the number of lesions developed and the urgency for some sort of fight-back. I guess you all experienced the same apprehensions at this stage of the treatment. So what can I expect on my initial appointment?
Hi Jacko and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to you I know how scared you're probably feeling right now.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join and post in the bowel cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you and who can share their experiences of their initial appointments with you.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Thanks for the welcome. I've updated my profile and joined the Bowel Cancer group as you suggested. Hopefully I'll be in a less stressful frame of mind once I get the initial chemo meeting assessment.
I think that everyone here would agree that, usually, once you know what your treatment plan is you feel a lot less stressed.
Wishing you all the best
