Hello all, im 54 years of age and have had MM for about 2 years now, well as far as i know, could have been longer. but i was diagnosed late and suffered significant skeletal damage, not only did my spine collapse, but my sturnum snapped and my neck has dropped as well. I look back at that time loosing over half my body weight and i really did feel like i was so close to the end.

Luckily I was finaly diagnosed and started treatment, i responded very well to treatment, and spent the first 6 months on "aggressive treatment" which all but brought my levels back to below 2 from 56 and with monthly maintenence treatment they have remained below 2. (ive been rejected for stem cell treatment because my breathing is too weak through the spinal collapse)

I do struggle with my mobility and apperance, and i think that is something ive accepted, although each month around treatment time, typically the following days i feel very low and have had thoughts of giving up.

My problem atm, is that im really struggling to eat, i find myself easily forgetting meals and not wanting to eat. nothing is appealing and when i do eat, i force meals down quickly, well as quick as i can, but i look at my plate and its a small amount. I just dont want to eat anymore.

Can anyone relate, or has anyways of overcoming this feeling and problem?

I just worry that mentally im ok, but my body is rejecting food to force natures cause.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I know from experience having been on my cancer journey coming up to 26 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable) that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend that you look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated……..

       Myeloma

…….. support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group please click on the link above……. then once the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

You can then introduce yourself to the group by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
