GP called for "support" appointment before MDT results—is this normal?

Hi everyone,

My mum was recently diagnosed with a G3 endometrioid carcinoma. She’s had her scans, and her case was discussed at the MDT this past Monday. The hospital nurse told us we likely wouldn't have a follow-up appointment until late December or January to discuss the full results and plan.

However, her GP called this morning to book an appointment specifically to discuss "support." This will happen before we see the oncology team.

My mum is now panicking, thinking the GP has seen the MDT results and that the news must be the "worst-case scenario." Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal for a GP to reach out for support before the hospital explains the full picture, or is it possible the GP is the one who will deliver the MDT findings?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Christmas wishes everyone.

  • Sounds unusual to me from being a member here for  4 years.  I think it's unlikely the GP has the MDT results or will deliver them.  GP is primary care, MDT is secondary care.  No way would MDT ask primary care to do it - it's asking them to do their job for them!  Plus you are in the secondary care space now.  Sounds to me like the GP is being supportive and wants to prepare for possible outcomes.

This is the most horrible and uncertain time for you and I don't understand why the NHS can't get their finger out and deliver the results ASAP, especially as it's causing you anxiety.   Sending hugs.

  • Hi  It sounds to me like you have a very good GP who is being proactive. Your GP wouldnt have any information from the hospital before you, from my experience my gp was notified a good month after me. Have a good christmas. Xx
