Hi,

Not really sure where to start, my husband (46) was diagnosed last week with Squamous cell carcinoma in esophagus,  had a PET scan on Monday and was staged at T3N1.

We have now been told he requires biopsy for his bowels as PET lit up this area and that they were unable to rule out invasion of the trachea (windpipe) so a ebus procedure is required.

We are meeting with Dr on 23rd to go through the treatment plan and diagnosis fully as this info was shared via our specialist nurse over the phone.

We have been told 5 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy.

I am frightened, I know he is but is putting a brave face on it all. I dont even know what im hoping for from this post, other than some reassuring words from other who have been through the same or similar?

What should I expect when treatment begins?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to your husband I know how scared you're probably feeling right now.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the oesophageal cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your husband.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

    Sending virtual ((hugs))
