My wife has been diagnosed with luekemia but told its treatable and curable. She has been on Lenalidomide tablets since May 25 but has been told she now needs chemotherapy treatment. We are waiting for a bed. We have been told her treatment will be Day1, day3 & day5 of a 4 week stay in hospital. We are scared, frightened of the unknown and what is to come. My wife is string incredibly taking it in her stride and very positive. I am not coping well i cry whenever anyone mentions it trying my very best to stay positive for her even when she asks "am i going to die?" I have joined because i need positivity and reassurance that it is going to be tough but successful. I also need guidance how to cope.with everything during her stay in hospital.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your wife’s Leukaemia diagnosis.

I am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups. I don’t have Leukaemia but I was officially diagnosed way back in 1999 at 44 with my rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of slow growing T-Cell Lymphoma.

I eventually reached Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive T-Cell Lymphoma. was then presenting so although my blood cancer ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

There are a number of different types of Leukaemia…. so these are our dedicated support groups listed below……

    Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia

    Acute Myeloid Leukaemia

    Chronic myeloid leukaemia

    CLL, SLL and HCL

and the general Leukaemia group covers some of the rare types.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from family members who are navigating the same support journey.

To connect with a group click on the “Bold Links” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

As an encouragement…… when I was first diagnosed our daughters were 14 and 18…… I had various treatments over my first 14 years but when my second type of Lymphoma appeared I had to have some intensive treatment (See my storybetween late 2013 to late 2015……  (750+ hrs of chemo, 45 radiotherapy zaps and 2 Allograft (donor) Stem Cell Transplants)…….  but we went on to see our daughters graduate, get married, set up very successful businesses and provide us with 4 beautiful granddaughters….. I turn 70 at the end of this week, I am 10 years out since my last treatment.

I am living a great life and we continue to look forward to what else life has in store for us to enjoy…….. this can be done.

I will keep an eye open for you in the groups.
