Hello I am new to this and was diagnosed with kappa free light chain mm an incurable cancer of the blood plasma in March 2025. I am 82 years old and have just completed the initial 5 months treatment with immunotherapy (daratumumab) and lenalidomide and am now in remission although I still have too many light chains. When diagnosed I had 10,700 and now just 61. The first three months treatment was a nightmare and I felt awful. I have now asked for the lenalidomide to be reduced and this has been done and made such a difference. I am now ready to go onto maintenance treatment later this month, continuing with the same treatment until the light chains are normal.
For all those with this cancer, the treatment does get better and you will feel much better. I talk to people not with kappa free light chain as this is quite rare but with mm. Some have the mm for 16 years initially treatment with chemo but now immunotherapy. I hope this bit of my own journey will help others to know there is light at the end of the tunnel even at my age.
