Hi my name is Dawn and I have joined this group on behalf of my hubby whom has stage 3 mantle cell lymphoma. He was in remission for 5 years which when he first got cancer it was stage 1 in his neck. He had radiotherapy which got rid of it. But now it’s back with a vengeance. He has had one round of chemo 3 weeks ago and he is now going in for some more which will be for 3 days. His hair has started falling out. I would like to know what is the best sun cream to get him with high SFP. I have seen an E45 one. But I have no idea which would be best for him. I am hoping there have been people on here or an expert that can help me with that. Also, is there any shampoos or oils he should be putting on his head. We are both 66 years of age but my hubby is usually fit and healthy. We would be so very grateful on any advice you can give. Thank you very much
Hi Dawn17
I'm sorry your husband is going through it. I had a different cancer and am by no means an expert but while I was being treated I noticed that the people with breast cancer were given care packages via a charity the products were from a company called moogoo and they do sun protection, the fact that the hospital gave them out implies to me that the products are ok. I would say probably best if your husband puts a hat on. I've put link to moogoo below. Sending hugs. Xx
Hi Dawn Dawn17 and a warm welcome to the Community although I am sorry to see you joining us and to hear about your hubby.
I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups.
I don’t have Mantle cell lymphoma but for some context I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) ……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
With a lymphoma diagnosis and especially having treatment like radiotherapy and especially chemo he will have to be safe in the sun for the rest of his life.
The very simple answer to what sun cream to use is to talk with his CNS or just go into your local pharmacy and as to talk with the pharmacist.
My first types of Lymphoma was a skin Lymphoma so being sun safe is part of life….. I no longer see my consultants so when I need a new sun cream I just ask our pharmacist as they know the most up to date effective Factor 50.
As for shampoo and skin care…… anything that is suitable for a baby is suitable for him but again talk with his CNS or a pharmacist.
We do actually have a dedicated Mantel Cell Lymphoma support group so why not join the group and introduce yourself and your husband.
((hugs))
Hi Mike
Thank you for your advice and I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and to hear that you have been going through it for so long. I will join the lymphoma group. I was finding it hard to get around this site. But I will get there. I will ask my hubby’s nurse. Wishing you all the best
Dawn
Hi Dawn.... yes I had a long journey but my 2 NHLs were very difficult to treatment but I turn 70 at the end of this year and as a family we celebrated 9+ years since my last treatment and I am living a great life.
If you imagine the community as being one long corridor that has over 100 separate doors leading to different support groups...... so it take a little time to 'get' the community but if you ever want to find your groups just hit your community name Dawn17 and that brings up 'your' information and activity.
But I see that you have joined the Mantel Cell Lymphoma support group so introduce yourself and your husband to the group.
I just had a look at my Sun Cream for last year and it was NIVA SUN protect & moisture 50+very high........ but I won't use this, this year as I always get a new bottle based on my Pharmacists recommendations.
I will keep an eye open for you in the MCL Group ((hugs))
