Hello I'm new to this community. Not sure how to start.

So here goes.... been full speed since mammogram picked up a lump. (Approx 4 weeks ago) Hospital appointments, biopsies, MRI, ultrasounds... pre op tomorrow and hopefully lumpectomy next week. Mind going 100 miles an hour. Feel numb, nervous... and so much more. Have been told if surgery goes well may only need a tablet aday .... but that not confirmed yet. Any advice? Thank you

  • It is a rollercoaster that you find yourself on and a stressful one at that.
After two lumpectomies, I would advise stocking up on painkillers. There are no prizes for suffering. Be kind to yourself and ensure you take the time to rest after the surgery. Personally I found the physical element easier to deal with than the emotional.
    I hope it goes well

  • Thank you so much for replying.  My emotions are all over the place. I don't know up from down. Like I'm in the twilight zone half the time.... ive no control over what's happening and tbh I don't like it!!!

Will def stock up with painkillers. I've been given the physiotherapy exercises that I have to do after the surgery. And the nurses have all been lovely. Just want the surgery over so I can move on.

    Hope u r recovering well x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2022 and had a lumpectomy.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
