Hello
my dad has recently been for a few tests and scans, initially it was to check his kidneys for a check up post cancer diagnosis around 10 years ago, but they decided to do a check on his chest where they noticed something they couldn’t identify in the scan and so he has been referred to lymphoma for a biopsy. (Although not confirmed lymphoma just going for more investigations)
my dad is fine in himself, no real changes to him generally and bloods seem ok. My question is, how long do biopsy’s take to get the results back? I lost my mother to cancer 2 years ago and so find health anxiety is always at a high when further scans/tests are involved.
any advice really appreciated
thanks
xx
Sorry to hear about losing your mum and now the anxiety over your dad's health. Biopsies take around two weeks normally. My neighbour was diagnosed with lymphoma at 85. He got his results in three weeks, but we are in Wales where everything is worse than in England

Hi Skyfullofstars and a second warm welcome to the Macmillan Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your dad’s ongoing Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups.
I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) ……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
When it comes to the Diagnosis of Lymphoma this can take time as there are over 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma so some biopsy samples have to go for specialists testing…… one of my samples was sent to the USA……. so the time frame for results can be anything from 2 to 8 weeks then if Lymphoma is confirmed a number of further test/scans would have to be done……. there us a lot of waiting when it comes to Lymphomas.
Ironically Lymphoma is a blood cancer but on the whole blood tests won’t pick it up!!!….. the mystery of blood cancers!!
We can’t have a group for every type but these are our main Lymphoma groups below.
General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma
These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
So if Lymphoma is confirmed look at the group list above…… then join the group that best fits his type of Lymphoma.
But in the meantime do stick around on this discussion until things are confirmed and I can help you further and answer any questions you have ((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
