diagnosis shock

I went for what I thought were blood tests for anaemia two days ago.

But I was told I have myeloma, bone cancer.

Today  I had bone marrow extraction and tomorrow I start a drug regime.

I am completely realing and in shock.

All symptoms I was told were because of pre menopause  were because of cancer!

And now I have to try and assimilate this news into my life.

How do you move on from diagnosis?

How did you decide who, what and when to tell people??

I have never been ill before, never stayed in hospital  and, apart from one xray and blood tests have never had any procedures!

I am 51 years old.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your Myeloma diagnosis.

Navigating a cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.

am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups (Myeloma is actually a blood cancer).

I was diagnosed way back in 1999 with my type of blood cancer (Lymphoma) so understand the journey well.

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)……. but I do see that you have already joined our dedicated Myeloma Support Group.

This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support. To connect in with the group please click on the link below…….

             Myeloma

……. then once the group page opens you you can then introduce yourself to the group by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

I will keep an eye open for you in the Myeloma group.
