Hello just joined so this is all new to me. I had bilateral lumpectomies and sentinel node surgery 10 days ago. Still sore and very emotional. Waiting for pathology results. Sick certificate runs out on Thursday and atm don’t feel ready to return to work. I work full time but just in an office so not physically demanding.  Am I being ridiculous and should I just go back to work and see how I go ?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I was in the fortunate position to be no longer working when I had a lumpectomy and SLNB.

The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the breast cancer group which is a great place to ask this question.

When you feel ready to post there you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    1. Hi, I've just joined too, I've just had a lumpectomy too, 3 weeks ago and waiting for my pathology results too. I've been off sick since the end of June and I don't feel ready to go back to work either, I've been told to look after myself and don't rush back to work, you need to get used to been selfish. Returning to work too early could see you taking longer to recover. Keep doing the exercises you may have been given, look after yourself x
  • Hi

If you don't feel ready don't go. It's not just the physical side of things you need to take into account it's the mental side aswell. You have to put you first. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Thank you. Yes doing exercises. Wishing us both good results
