Hi. I've joined the group as my husband is having cancer treatment. I've been to Maggie's for a list of insurers who cover cancer patients. My current insurer is on there (we have annual multi-trip) so I phoned them yesterday, thinking it would be easier to talk to a human. How wrong I was! They still don't listen - just keep asking you the stock questions, a lot of which don't fit. After over an hour of repetition they finally told me they wouldn't cover us ("Computer says no") and gave me a refund for my remaining 3 months.
I found a forum page where people could add recent experiences to a thread, but it seems to be locked.
Has anyone had any recent success with a sympathetic insurer? Preferably one who listens to you.
Thank you.
Hi Princess Bride and I am sorry to hear about the challenges you are having.
I personally had to be 2 years in remission and not on any cancer related treatments for my type of incurable blood cancer before I could get any price (and that was with my consultant saying I was clear to fly a good 18 months before) but these decisions are often all down to cancer types, treatment, prognosis and the resulting risk factor put on by the insurers risk assessment - I am very open to serious infections due to a reduced immune system so this was seen as a high risk factor for insurers.
There is a locked discussion in our Travel insurance group...... but do have a look through the link below…….
……… that is an ongoing discussion thread (do go to the bottom of the thread and hit the >> to take you to the newest posts)
I do hope you can find some cover.
Unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved.
As my friend Mike Thehighlander has said, do come and join us over in the travel insurance group. Although you mentioned that the 'Recommended Travel Insurance' is locked to prevent further relies being added, it's still an invaluable source of recommendations. In fact, there are so many in there it's best to go through it and make a list before starting to phone around.
I do hope you can find some reasonably priced insurance and have some great trips away. One thing you might have to do is buy single trip cover, rather than annual, while your husband is having treatment.
Thanks for the tip Peter. I had esophageal cancer this year, all treatment done and all clear. My wife had Hodgkin Lymphoma 5 years ago, again all clear.
Tried the recommended insurers and couldn't get an annual multi trip quote, but through payingtoomuch.com got a few reasonable quotes.
