I have been diagnosed with lung cancer; caught early and now have to have lower lobe lung removed, I have a date but would love to chat with anyone who has gone through this. I’m having terrible problems sleeping it’s just on my mind all the time. I would love to chat with anyone who has gone through this and also anyone who can offer sleep tips. Feel very down and upset !

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Lung Cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this link> Lung Cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Thank you I have joined as you suggested.

  • Hi Eryl, I had my left lower lung removed through cancer in mid September, I was terrible before the operation, we even had a holiday booked and decided to carry on with it, what a waste of time and money that was, as all we could think about was the cancer and the operation that was looming.
since the op, I have had complications, but not everyone will, and hopefully you won’t. One thing I will say is though, I thought I would sail through it, give yourself time to heal ( says the person who didn’t listen, but I am now)  don’t rush things. See my blog, also make one if you haven’t already, also if you have a local Maggie’s go to them, I found out from Highlander on here, about it, myself and my sister went yesterday ( she is waiting for mastectomy) and they are lovely there.

But any other q’s I am happy to answer, take care of yourself

    Suzie

  • Thank you for your message. I’ve checked your blog out. I’m having my operation 5 Dec so currently trying to stay away from people to keep myself as healthy as possible. Maggies sounds a great place so I will check it out when safe to do so. I have up and down days imagine most people do. Have to get up and try and stay positive, not long till the operation now so my journey will continue. I’ve been eating healthily and exercising, taking additional food replacements as an extra to put on a few pounds in case I have difficulty eating after.

    thanks again

  • Hi Eryl

Great idea with the eating, I did suffer as the meds made me feel ill each time I ate. Not long to wait now, it will soon fly by and your date will be here. Good luck with your operation.
