Was diagnosed yesterday 1st Nov 2023.
After reading Treatment Plans, the amount of people that have said the , Chemradio therapy is horrendous. I don't know if I could cope with this treatment..
Would like people that have had this treatment for there opinions and how they coped.
Thx Kaz31
Hi Kaz31 and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnoses.
Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).
The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) abd zi can see that you have already joined our dedicated Anal Cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect in with the group click on this link> Anal cancer then once the group page opens you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Hi Kez, looks that way, I have been doing a lot of reading and so far everything I have read states the ChemoRadio is horrendous. I have now been referred to another Hospital for treatment, so just waiting now, but I shall be asking questions if/before treatment. I was diagnosed on the 20th Oct 2023.
From seeing my GP 22 days to diagnosis, which I thought was brilliant.
About me:- Married, 66yrs, 2 older kids.
Keep in touch xx
I am also waiting transfer to an alternative hospital as my local one can't offer treatment. I've not spoke to a doctor at any point just a nurse key worker, and that's only twice since they suspected cancer 3 week ago. I feel in the dark about what's happening, I don't know the size of my tumour, the stage or if it's even curable. Currently waiting for a PET scan, whilst also being transferred.
I'm 37, married with too older teenagers
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
