Oesophagus and prostate cancer

Hello everyone. I've only registered with the online community today but already feel good about having you all as friends, and hopefully being able to chat about things, and help others!

My story is quite complicated really. In 2008 I experienced pain and problems with swallowing.

I was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in August 2008, after an endoscopy and biopsy.

I then had chemotherapy followed by several endoscopies, after which there was no sign of any cancer, not even in remission!!

I became somewhat of a mystery to the medical profession!!

I was fine but with a dark cloud over me thinking "did I or didn't I have it!!" To this day, I'm still not sure, although my consultant never actually gave me the all clear, advising me to contact them in the future if I had  reoccurrence of any symptoms.

In February 21 I caught an infection, which resulted in all my joints becoming inflamed and my blood pressure fluctuating up and down significantly. My pulse was up to 200! I was admitted to hospital for 2 weeks as a result, diagnosed with "reactive arthritis".

I was put on so many medications, including steroids, which I am still taking.

Next, in March of this year, I had a routine yearly blood test for my asthma, which I have had since birth (this is totally controlled with medication).

The asthma result was fine, but my PSA level was12.5!! I had an MRI which confirmed prostate cancer.

I had radiotherapy and hormone treatment after which my PSA level was something like 0.2 - excellent news!!

I am now left with constant hot and cold sweats and chronic fatigue which, is TOTALLY debilitating.

Well, that's my story folks.

Does anyone have these hot and cold sweats, and fatigue?

I would love some advice with how to deal with them!!

Best wishes

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your journey.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Prostate Cancer Group and our Oesophagus Cancer Group support groups. These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this links> Prostate cancer and Gullet (oesophagus) cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
