Hi all,
I am 33 years old and had surgery in March 2023 to remove a typical carcinoid tumour and most of my right lung. The surgery was successful and I have since recovered well, and recently had a Gallium scan which has got me worrying a bit.
The results of the scan have come back showing some “post surgical changes” and I have to have another blood test and another CT scan in October before they will let me know anything else - but they have stressed that it’s nothing serious like me needing anymore surgery.
Has anyone else been in a similiar position with “post surgical changes” and have any idea what it could be about?
Hi YorkshireLad123 and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am so sorry to hear about your diagnoses and that you are continuing to have issues show up.
The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you consider joining and posting in our dedicated Lung Cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect with the group click on this link Lung Cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)
When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Hi there,
Well, in 2021 I had a typical carcinoid tumor removed from my left lung and top half of my lung removed (I have 1/2 of the left one now) at 41 years old.
In my follow up CT scans I had "post surgical changes" noted which were nothing, nada. From my understanding this is just the guys reading the CT scan saying that things are different after removing a chunk of lung :). Check with doc thought of course.
Your post caught my attention as I was looking for someone who had a very similar surgery to myself so that I could compare notes and basically see if I was recovering back to "normal" comparatively well, etc.
If you are still viewing this chat, just give a shout. Thanks :)
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
